I explored PodShow.com. I can see myself using it to get ideas for staging, directing and producing library podcasts. Strongly recommended.

My colleagues and I have recently created a wiki for an emergent literacy peer coaching project. The purpose is to provide information and networking opportunities for storytime presenters. We've included video podcasts of librarians demonstrating best practices. Thing #16 has been a great opportunity for more wiki discovery.

Thing Web 2.0
The Machine is Us/ing Us
My being many years in public libraries gave me frequent opportunities of seeing the enthusiasm, energy and drive of myself and others working in libraries. Was enthusiasm, energy or drive ever misplaced or misdirected? On the other hand could one's energy be misdirected with Web 2.0? Do you know of a fellow library worker, who has lately done something Web 2.0 worthy, deserving our praise? If yes, communicate it to him or her and to others.

Thing Technorati
At length I took a look from blog to blog to blog. I found it advantageous to have a semblance of organization applied to a zillion blogs. I imagined that I could spend a multitude of hours in Technorati. But I confined myself to creating and following 3 points, 1. Being diligent in reading the latest WTFs, 2. Partaking of a sampling of Favorites, and 3. Paying a due respect for that which is Popular, including Everything in the Known Universe About Harry Potter.

Thing Delicious
As soon as I was settled in on how to navigate del.icio.us I explored the Thomas Ford Memorial Library website. To my del.igh.t I found a book I hadn't heard of that interested me very much, "Founding Myths: Stories That Hide Our Patriotic Past." The book cover was posted in their Flickr photo series about library book discussion groups, programs and items of interest. I then purused Thomas Ford's RSS favorites discovering a promising website on American Presidents at the University of Virginia's Miller Center. There I appreciated a podcast of a 1964 phone call from the Johnsons to Senator Richard Russell of Georgia. I have long desired to find a comprehensive and well-researched website on the American Presidents and may have found one agreeable and useful.

Thing # 9
As so much of the stimulation in life comes from news sources, how can one determine the best news source for him or herself?
Thing # 8
I had conceived of the most arduous project of creating RSS feeds for not only what I am interested in but also for all that is beneficial for me. I have found that the task is more difficult than I had imagined and have settled for creating 10 feeds that will suffice for now.
Working through Thing #5 and #6, I was reminded about what I think was a very wise statement at a technology program at ALA: it's important that library workers are 'comfortable being uncomfortable' in order to better explore new and emerging technology. I found my experience thus far with the 23 Things to be challenging, uncomfortable and wonderful.

As much as the old clunker is loved and appreciated, Elaine and Cindy are excited that the new bookmobile will be arriving in a couple of months.

Week 2
Since I'm working on Week 2 during Week 5 (Fourth of July), I'm thinking about fireworks, pig roasts, corn on the cob, and, of course, Thomas Jefferson. I named my blog the Third President in Jefferson's honor. I'm focusing on keeping the end in mind -- I will finish the 23 Things on time.
